About

Senior finance expertise for small businesses

I'm Gabi Sebők. For 25 years I worked inside the finance teams of international companies, most recently as an interim finance leader responsible for reporting and Dutch compliance. I started English Bookkeeper because I kept meeting talented freelancers and founders who were losing sleep over Dutch tax rules they couldn't read.

With me you get one personal contact, clear explanations and the rigour of corporate finance, at a price that suits a small business.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a bookkeeper as a freelancer in the Netherlands?

It isn't mandatory, but Dutch VAT (btw) returns, income tax rules and deadlines are easy to get wrong, especially when the letters from the Belastingdienst are in Dutch. Many freelancers do their own invoicing and let a bookkeeper check the figures and file the returns.

What is included in the monthly fee?

Processing or checking your bookkeeping, your quarterly btw returns, email support within one working day and reminders for your deadlines. The annual income tax return (freelancers) or annual accounts and corporate tax return (BV's) is a separate yearly fee.

Which bookkeeping software do you use?

I work with modern online bookkeeping software with an English interface and automatic bank feeds, so you can send invoices and upload receipts from your phone. If you already use a package, we can discuss whether to keep it.

Can I switch from my current bookkeeper during the year?

Yes. Many clients switch at the start of a new quarter or financial year. I take over your opening figures and set everything up during onboarding.

Do you only work in English?

English is the default, but Dutch is fine too. I also speak Hungarian.
